SERC’s Level 2 Food & Beverage Service students recently visited the holiday resort of Corralejo to gain valuable work experience in 3* and 4* hotels as part of the Erasmus+ Further Education VET project.

Students had the opportunity to put their knowledge and skills into practice and experience the stresses of delivering a high-quality service in a pressurised hotel environment during a busy holiday period.  Not only did students improve their technical and professional skills but gained a deeper understanding of the food service sector in a different country whilst improving their language skills and preparing them for wok in a multi-cultural environment.

Paul Mercer, Deputy Head of School said, “The Erasmus Project was a fantastic opportunity for learners to hone their food service skills in an international setting whilst experiencing a new culture.”

The students enjoyed meeting new people and working as part of a professional team. They felt that their understanding of restaurant etiquette had improved, and they gained more confidence in their communication skills, language ability and believe that they are more independent and ready for the world of work. Most said that they would like the opportunity to return to further develop their skills.
