Business students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) visited Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife in June this year, fully funded by the Turing Scheme.

Students stayed at the Fergus Hotel in Puerto de la Cruz and attended a two-week Digital Marketing course, run by FU International Academy, Tenerife. Students also visited Siam Waterpark and Loro Parque Zoo. In addition, there were Portuguese and Dutch students attending training at the same time and some group events were arranged so students could partake in a cultural exchange while learning.

On her time on the trip, SERC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business student Pippa Dunlop comments, “My Turing scheme trip is something that I am incredibly grateful for and will forever remember due to the wide range of skills and abilities I picked up over my two weeks in Tenerife. The marketing course we studied on the trip helped to enrich all that we have learned about business and digital marketing over the last 2 years at SERC. We had the opportunity to put our knowledge into practice with amazing new equipment and we were given feedback from young tutors who have travelled across the world in different lines of business. It was inspiring to hear from younger people who have experienced so much after completing courses like ours, it gave lots of us something to aspire to!

“Outside of class we were in a beautiful location and had free time to improve on our social and communication skills by meeting with new students from other campuses as well as another school group from the Netherlands.”

Pippa concluded, “Overall, the trip has given me a massive appreciation for what SERC does for its students, moreover it has put me a huge step ahead of my peers in terms of work experience and confidence heading into higher education.”

The Turing Scheme provides funding for students to undertake a study or work placement across the world, contributing to the UK Government’s commitment to a Global Britain, by helping organisations such as SERC to enhance existing international links and forge new relationships. The delivery partner for the Turing Scheme is Capita working on behalf of the Department for Education.
