Staff Induction Information

Catherine McCracken, a new team member at SERC who has taken up the role of Full-Time Lecturer in Early Years within the School of Health, Early Years & Adult Education, has commented on the effectiveness of the Staff Induction programme stating: “Induction was very helpful being split over two half days, with day one considering administration and navigating of the SERC intranet and day two focusing on teaching. I found the ‘Roadmap’ helpful as it took me step by step through the induction process, so I knew what I had covered and what I still had to do!”

According to the CIPD 2020 resourcing and planning survey, 42% of organisations are improving their induction process to enhance retention. At SERC we offer a flexible and informative staff induction programme.

If you are interested in taking part in the final evening sessions occurring on the 24th May, 26th May, 7th June and 9th June, you can register your interest by emailing learningacademy@serc.ac.uk

This programme consists of 6 main areas, which include:

  • Online Induction (accessed online) with senior management highlighting college aims and objectives as well as gaining insight into our innovative ways of working.
  • Learning Engine Modules (accessed online) to successfully ease you into SERC life, introducing policy, process, and teaching strategy.
  • Welcome Induction (online via Teams) providing the opportunity to iron out SERC account and IT issues and a much needed occasion to liaise with HR, availing of our benefits package including health and wellbeing support.
  • Pedagogy Session (online via Teams) to guide you through a teaching and learning workshop in preparation for your academic journey, with the essentials of how to plan, structure lessons and engage learners.
  • Departmental Induction (organised via email – refer to your roadmap for DHOS details) which introduces your school / department via a 1-1 with your Deputy Head of School or School Support Officer.
  • Supportive Observation to establish any additional support you may require in relation to teaching and learning.

Additionally, IT Support (theservicedesk@serc.ac.uk) are always available to iron out any issues you may have in terms of access and deployment of software.
