Spartacus is a 1960 Epic historical drama filmed by Stanley Kubrick, written by Dalton Trumbo, based on the novel – author Howard Fast and inspired by the life story of Spartacus the leader of a slave revolt and the events of the Third Servile War.  Staring   Kirk Douglas as Spartacus, Laurence Olivier – General,  Peter Ustinov, John Gavin, Jean Simmons , Charles Laughton and Tony Curtis.  Love it or hate it, the film, surrounded by controversy, was finally released today 6th October 1960.
