Skillbuild NI 2023

Students and apprentices from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) are getting ready for SkillBuild NI 2023, which will be hosted at North West Regional College, Greystone Campus, Limavady on Tuesday 16 May.

Competitors will be putting their skills and knowledge to the test for their respective trades against their peers and will have the opportunity to secure a place at WorldSkills UK Live which takes place this November.

Over 100 students and apprentices are taking part in over 10 disciplines with SERC representatives taking part in competitions for Cabinet Making, Joinery, Carpentry, Fire & Security and Electrical Installation.

Speaking ahead of the competition, Luke McIlwrath (Ballynahinch), a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Site Carpentry apprentice at Lisburn Campus employed by Nigel Reid, Ballynahinch said, “I am looking forward to competing, but it will be a case of keeping calm and working through the task. It is a great opportunity to show everything you have learnt."

Fellow apprentice, Dylan Ewing (Ballynahinch) from the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Site Carpentry at Lisburn Campus employed by Alan Nelson Joinery, Dromore, said, “There is a lot of work taking part in the competitions but the mentoring at SERC has been fantastic.   Time will be one of the biggest challenges on the day.”
