Gareth Hetherington awarded an MBE

Mr Hetherington, a qualified accountant and member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy has worked in economics and public policy for over 20 years as a management consultant and more recently, as Director of the Ulster University Economic Policy Centre.

As a member of the Governing Body since 2013 and latterly as Temporary Chair, Mr Hetherington has made a significant contribution to the Governance of the College, bringing strengths in a range of areas including public accountability, analytical and strategic thinking as well as a detailed understanding of the role of Further Education in the economy.

Mr Hetherington stated that “SERC plays such an important role in both the local economy and the local community and my receipt of this honour is a reflection of the great work undertaken by the staff and governors here in the college.”  

Reacting to this announcement, Ken Webb Principal & Chief Executive said ‘We are absolutely delighted to see that Gareth’s work and commitment to Further Education and the Economy has been recognised in this thoroughly deserved award’.
