SERC hospitality student racks up big win at International Pool Championships

Hard work and determination have paid off for SERC hospitality management student Eamon Ferris who has won a gold medal at the 2018 Blackball International World Championship of Pool.
Eamon and his teammate competed in the under 23’s doubles competition where they were presented with gold medals for their sensational display.
Hosted at the Spa Arena in Bridlington England, The Blackball International World Championship of Pool is a six-day tournament which attracts some of the best players from around the world to compete in several events to be crowned world champions.
Competing as part of the Northern Ireland team, 20-year-old Eamon from Newcastle and his teammate brought home Northern Irelands only gold medal of the competition with other players picking up 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. Eamon and his teammate beat the England duo 3-2 to be crowned champions.
Eamon has a passion for both Pool and Snooker cue sports and has already proven to be a world class player. After beginning his journey at the age of 11, Eamon has previously been crowned Northern Ireland Under 21 Snooker Champion in April 2016 as well as travelling to Bulgaria, Cyprus and Poland to compete.
SERC Head of School for the School of Hospitality, Management, Tourism and Languages James Currie said “It is great to see students flourishing outside of the classroom and Eamon is showing great drive and determination to be a world class player. I have no doubt there will more silverware in his future.”
