South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is planning an outdoor socially distanced event to bring together those in need in the Downpatrick community, in the run up to Christmas.
Planned for the 15th of December, local people in need will be provided with a hot meal and a mince pie. SERC students will be preparing the meals and will be supervised by SERC catering staff. This event will run solely through donations from local charities and through the help of donations of SERC staff and students.
The event aims to feed as much people as possible, the more money donated, the more people fed. So far, £150 has been donated from Fountain Food Bank Downpatrick, which is enough to feed 30 people a Christmas dinner followed by a mince pie.
Hanlons food store in Downpatrick have kindly donated a beautiful hamper, which will be part of a fundraising raffle for SERC staff and students, with all proceeds going towards supporting more people with meals as part of the socially distanced event.
Ernest Hanlon Jr, one of the owners of Hanlons, said, “‘SERC did an amazing job providing training and support to local businesses when the pandemic hit. We were only too happy to return the favour to support of their thoughtful event, helping those in need. We wish them every success.”
