Staff at SERC have worked hard over the summer to make campuses safe and welcoming for students during the enrolment period and in the new term, which starts on 7 September. The Department for the Economy has issued updated guidance for colleges which SERC has followed to enable students and staff to return safely to education and training on site.

Paddy McShane, Campus Manager for the College’s Lisburn Campus, is part of the team preparing all sites for the return to campus learning. He says

“Safety is paramount to everything we are doing at SERC in preparation for the new academic year. Our business is education and training, that hasn’t changed, but how we do things certainly has.

“Coming to College will be different for everyone whether you are a new student, a returning student or a member of staff but, over the summer, most of us will have been out to the shops or accessing services so you will have some idea what to expect and it won’t feel too strange.

“We have been working hard to ensure that everything we need is in place to help everyone adhere to social distancing and that everyone who comes through our doors, whether, students, staff or visitors, feels safe.”

SERC has been keeping abreast of government guidelines for colleges as they have changed to reflect developments in the Covid-19 situation.

Enhanced health and safety procedures include one-way systems to support social distancing, hand sanitiser stations and PPE for students and staff.

To introduce the new safety measures to all students and staff the SERC team has produced a short video which you can see here.
