South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has been celebrating the success of Roger Duncan, SERC Lisburn Campus Manager, who was named as a winner at the second annual Good for Me Good for FE Awards. The Awards were presented at a ceremony at the House of Lords last week, hosted by The Baroness Barran MBE.

The awards recognise the incredible volunteering and fundraising contributions made by staff and students from Further Education (FE) Colleges across the UK.

Roger Duncan won in the Volunteering College Coordinator of the Year Category. He represented SERC, working alongside three other FE colleges: Nottingham College; Loughborough College; and East Coast College, to form an Accreditation Focus Group. This team has been working to develop an innovative programme to recognise skills gained through volunteering, creating a framework for accreditation which values experience outside the classroom. This would also inspire more people to volunteer and participate in social action activities.

SERC is also extremely proud that the PEAR project, which offers tailored support to student carers, was shortlisted in the Project of the Year category. PEAR brings together networking opportunities, initiatives to promote well-being, and financial advice as well as offering flexible arrangements for study at SERC for those who may need to deal with emergency situations.

The Good for Me Good for FE Awards are sponsored by the educational charity and awarding body NCFE, with prizes provided by FE Associates. Since the Good for Me, Good for FE campaign began in 2021, 150 colleges UK-wide have become involved, generating millions of pounds in social value through volunteering, fundraising, and foodbank collections.

Speaking at the event, Dr Sam Parrett CBE, Co-Founder of Good for Me Good for FE and Group CEO of London South East Colleges, said, "These awards showcase the incredible impact of the FE sector in supporting its communities and generating social value. The contributions of our students and staff are a powerful reminder of the difference we can make together."
