SERC student Holly Sloan’s photography skills caught the eye of HRH Prince Charles during his recent visit to Bangor. Holly (20, from Bangor) studies OCR Level 3 Technical Diploma in Art & Design (Photography) at SERC’s Bangor campus.
Holly spoke about the opportunity to meet Prince Charles, “It was a brilliant moment and such an exciting experience. He was such a lovely person, really down to earth and I had a laugh with him. It honestly still hasn't sunk in that Prince Charles owns a piece of my photography, it was such an amazing experience and to know my photograph is now in the royal collection is out of this world, it’s just incredible.”
Holly told us about her experience with photography and how she got started, “I have been involved with photography for the last few years, I was inspired to take up a photography course after I did a unit of photography in an Art and Design class and just fell in love. My favourite thing to photograph is nature and everything that lives within nature, I also really enjoy close up photography.”
Holly met Prince Charles at the Bangor market where she often sells her photography, “I began selling photos at the market about 2 to 2 and a half years ago. I was inspired to start up my own business when my mum surprised me by ordering me calendars of my photos about 2 years ago, she ordered about 20 and they were only sold to family and friends. That got me into buying my own frames, printing my own images, and selling them at any markets my mum may attend.”
Holly talked about her development as a photographer since joining the college “The development I’ve made as a photographer since I started at SERC is crazy. I have become much more confident in my photography and my skills. The photography course helped me tremendously and is the reason I was confident enough to start selling my photos.”
