South Eastern Regional College (SERC) recently welcomed a visit from Dr. Yücel Tekin, Head of Computing and Engineering at OSTIM Technical University, Turkey, who met with Ken Webb, SERC Principal and CEO, SERC Computing and Engineering staff and the college’s International department to develop a Dual Degree with programmes in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, and in Cloud Computing Technologies between the two institutions.

Dr. Tekin visited both the Bangor and Lisburn campuses to experience the impressive range of technology facilities available to support the curriculum offering, and to view the opportunities available to OSTIM Technical University students at SERC. Stuart Rankin, Head of Higher Education and Trevor Breadon, Head of Computing and Engineering at SERC were pleased to showcase the Industry 4.0 and IT curriculum as well as the state-of-the-art facilities in the Engineering and Computing Department.

The visit also allowed the academic team to successfully map the programmes and sign a Memorandum of Understanding, which will enable OSTIM students to complete an additional year of study at SERC.

Claire Henderson, Chief Officer Quality Excellence and Development commented, “This is an exciting opportunity to develop international links with OSTIM Technical University. Not only has this relationship provided opportunities for students to come to Northern Ireland to study in technical areas such as our BSc Hons programmes in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics and Cloud Computing Technologies, but it has opened doors for future projects between the two institutions to share our expertise. Dr. Tekin was very impressed with the facilities and technical approach to Higher Education the College offer.”
