Aine McGreeghan, a Lecturer at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has been shortlisted for a prestigious Pearson National Teaching Award, hailed as Education’s Oscars.

Shortlisted for Further Education Lecturer of the Year Award, Aine, (Newtownards), who has been a lecturer with SERC since 2013, was Curriculum Manager before her recent appointment as Deputy Head of School for Engineering and Computing.

Along with other nominees, she will now face judging from a team of experienced school experts before the Silver Award winners are announced on 21 June as part of National Thank a Teacher Day. Silver winners will then compete to win one of just 14 Gold Awards, which will be announced at the Pearson National Teaching Awards UK Ceremony in November.

Selected from thousands of nominations of extraordinary lecturers, Aine is just one of the professionals working in Further Education institutions who play a vital role in inspiring and engaging learners preparing them to make successes of their lives, whether that’s via Higher Education or directly into employment.   She has been the driving force behind the College’s work around equality for Women and Girls in Engineering.  She has also worked with industry to understand priorities and reshape the Engineering Curriculum to ensure students are ‘work ready’; and has created opportunities for student engineering companies and enterprises to flourish.

Ken Webb, Principal and Chief Executive of SERC said, “We congratulate Aine on her shortlist for this prestigious Award.   Her nomination has been chosen from thousands from across the UK and we are delighted that she represents, not only SERC, but Further Education and engineering.”

The Pearson National Teaching Awards is an annual celebration of exceptional teachers, founded in 1998 by Lord David Puttnam to recognise the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they teach.

Students and parents can show their appreciation for their amazing lecturers and teachers, who are supporting children and young people across the country by sending them a Thank You card for free via the Thank a Teacher campaign at https://thankateacher.co.uk/
