As part of the annual Apprenticeship Week celebrations, South Eastern Regional College (SERC) hosted some “Have a Go Sessions” at our Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards campuses.
It was a great opportunity for prospective apprentices to meet with expert lecturers, and to see first-hand our state-of-the-art technologies.
William Greer SERC’s Chief Officer for Training said, “Over 220 young people accompanied by their parents, took part in the Have-a-Go sessions as part of NI Apprenticeship week at SERC’s 4 main campuses. This provided prospective apprentices with the opportunity to sample skills training in a wide range of areas including Plumbing, Motor Vehicle, Electrical, Carpentry and Joinery, Mechanical Engineering, Catering and Hairdressing. Young people and their parents also had the opportunity to meet with SERC’s tutors and apprenticeship staff and were very appreciative of the support and guidance provided.
“We were delighted with the turnout at the sessions and were very impressed with the young people who attended. Many of them have now applied for their apprenticeship and are now working with college staff to secure employment to start their apprenticeship course in September 2022”
Speaking of Apprenticeship Week, William said “NI Apprenticeship Week is a key event in the College calendar. The initiative gives us a greater platform to share success stories from some of the 1250 apprentices and 170 Higher Level Apprentices who choose SERC to gain their Apprenticeship qualifications, along with the 950 employers who work in partnership with the College to offer apprenticeships in a range of subjects to meet the demands of the local economy.”
