Level 2 and Level 3 Apprenticeship NI in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Heavy Vehicle) students, tested their mechanical skills recently at SERC Lisburn Campus as part of a campus competition.

During the competition, students carried out an inspection on a heavy goods vehicle, performing tests and measurements on the electrical circuit build, crankshaft, pneumatic brakes setup, and engine diagnostics, writing down what they discovered as they carried out their inspection. SERC tutors, who judged the students work, evaluated them based on their adherence to safe working practices, competency in practical skills, and applying their course knowledge to solve problems.

Podium positions went to Level 2 Apprentice Eugene Prunty (18), from Dunmurry, who came in first place and won £100 Halfords gift voucher, Level 3 Apprentice Own Rush (20) from Lisburn, came in second place and won £75 Halfords gift voucher, and Level 2 Apprentice Adam Donnelley (19), from Ballygowan came in third place and won £50 Halfords gift voucher.

SERC would like to extend a special thank-you to Transport Supplies Commercial Truck Parts Belfast, for their support in sponsoring the event and providing additional give aways to all students involved in the competition.
