The Go Green Team at SERC has entered the College for a 2020 Green Gown Award (UK & Ireland) in the Enterprise category.
The Green Gown Awards recognise tertiary education establishments, including Further and Higher Education Colleges, who have made a difference in the area of sustainability. Organisations can enter in up to 12 different categories, including ‘Climate Action 2030’, ‘Benefiting Society’ and ‘Campus of The Future’, while individual teams, staff and students can choose from three categories specifically for them.
SERC has submitted an application in the organisational category ‘Enterprise’, which recognises excellence in enhancing students’ enterprise skills to deliver beneficial social and environmental impacts.
The College has invested heavily in embedding enterprising and entrepreneurial skills throughout the curriculum as well as in providing extensive extra-curricular support to students through its Entrepreneurs Club. Sustainability has been placed at the heart of its Enterprise vision, with the College themes reflecting SERC’s goal to foster sustainable enterprise. This year, the themes include ‘Business and the Environment’ as well as ‘Energy Conservation, Upcycling and Reducing Waste’. Students and teaching staff are encouraged to use these themes to guide their enterprise projects.
Given SERC’s extensive investment in developing sustainable enterprise skills among students, the College hopes to be a strong competitor in this year’s Green Gown Award for Enterprise. However, having now submitted the stage 1 one application form, there is nothing more for the Go Green team to do but wait patiently to discover if SERC will progress to stage 2!
