Industrial Engineers from SERC’s Bangor campus have been keen to put their expertise to good use in the battle against COVID-19, and so have set up a ‘3D Printer Farm’ to produce face shields for frontline medical staff.

The 3D Printers, gathered from across the Bangor, Lisburn and Downpatrick campuses, will work 24 hours a day to produce plastic face shields for healthcare workers, to a safety certified design.

The Industrial Engineers hope to be able to produce 25+ shields per day, working on a rota along with caretaking staff to attend Bangor campus and operate the machines whilst still practicing social distancing as per government advice.
