The Blood Transfusion Service will be hosting a Donation Session at the Downpatrick Campus, Main Hall on Wednesday 6th November 2019.

The entire process of taking blood; from checking in to refreshments after, only takes around 45 minutes. The actual donation of blood lasts less than 10 minutes.

There will be two sessions available:

  • 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.
  • 5:15 to 8:00 p.m.

Blood transfusions are a lifesaver for those who have been in an accident or need it to help survive treatments and operations. But for some, whose illness has no cure and that last battle they face just cannot be won, a blood transfusion can help to improve their quality of life during their final months, weeks or even days.

Every week almost 500 people in Northern Ireland need a life-saving blood transfusion. Currently only 6% of NI’s population donate blood.

To find out more about blood donation eligibility, please take this quick questionnaire: https://nibts.hscni.net/donating-blood/can-i-donate/

All eligible people are encouraged to consider giving blood. If you are between the age of 17 and 65 and in reasonably good health you should be able to give blood for the first time.
