The Blood Transfusion Service will be at SERC’s Downpatrick campus on Wednesday December 11, and will run two sessions, the first from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm, and again from 5:15 pm until 8:00 pm.

From your arrival to refreshments, the process of your blood donation will only take you around 45 minutes, with only 10 of those minutes being the actual donation of blood.

The impact those 45 minutes can have is lifesaving and enhancing, as your blood donation will help:

  • The 500 people in Northern Ireland in need of a lifesaving blood transfusion every week.
  • Give cover for surgical procedures where there is blood loss.
  • Cancer patients following chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, who need specialised blood components such as platelets.
  • The care of very premature, severe low birth weight infants.

Everyone who is eligible to give blood is encouraged to do so, by coming along to the session.

You will find that many people aged 17-65 and in reasonably good health will be eligible to donate blood, however for further information and to check on your own eligibility please click here.
