National Tea Day

Today marks the 5th anniversary of National Tea day, however this year things are a little different as we are staying at home. So, all throughout today, The National Tea campaign is being held digitally with a National Virtual Tea Party, with online events on throughout the day until 7pm.

Get involved by visiting https://www.nationalteaday.co.uk/ and find out the power of tea!

Ellie Bradley, Deputy Head of School at SERC, has been bringing people together for a weekly tea break to make up for missing teatime in Downpatrick’s McNeill Room. Ellie says, "I'm one of the Mental Health First aiders for SERC and wanted to make sure that people had a space just to come and have a chat and know that on a Tuesday at 10 someone will be there to talk back.  When everything is up in the air it's good to have a constant and to see the people we're used to chatting to in the corridors.  We fill a mug and come and share it online.  People have commented that they sign off feeling better and a bit uplifted which is what I hoped would happen."

On National Tea Day, Ellie hosted a zoom meeting, as she has done for the past few weeks we have been working from home. Having these tea breaks allows those involved to experience a bit of normality during these strange and unprecedented times. Connecting with others over a cup of tea, even if it is virtually, can help combat feelings of isolation, loneliness and anxiety.
