Former SERC student Aimee Clint (20, from Ballywalter) was recently honoured with a prestigious Diana Award. Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Award is given out by the charity of the same name and has the support of both her sons, The Duke of Cambridge and The Duke of Sussex.

The Diana Award is the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social work or humanitarian efforts. The accolade bestowed upon Aimee is in reflection of her incredible and tireless efforts with her social enterprise “Books by Stellas” which seeks to improve people’s understanding of autism.

Her drive to create her social enterprise was inspired by personal experiences of growing up with a brother with autism. Aimee said “Growing up there were no resources about autism which could explain it to me in terms that I really understood.  I decided to create a resource to give back to other siblings something that I felt was missing from what I was going through when I was younger.

“I met with autism groups, specialists, people with autism, families and charities and presented a first draft of the book to get feedback.  The response encouraged my friend Saan and me to take the book to the next level by starting Books by Stellas.”

Aurla McLoughlin, Head of School Performing and Creative Arts, Hairdressing and Beauty headed the Entrepreneurs Club which helped Aimee with the release of her second book. She said, “I am delighted to learn that Aimee has won a Diana Award, a deserving accolade which highlights just how incredible her work has been. This prestigious award gives recognition to her persistent, selfless and helpful efforts in raising awareness and understanding of autism.”

Aurla added, “Aimee was one of the founding members of SERC’s Entrepreneurs Club. She wrote and launched her second book whilst with us and was massively supported by SERC’s Entrepreneur in Residence Terence Brannigan and ourselves. We wish Aimee the very best of luck and continued success with “Books by Stellas” and her career.”
