Quarantine Care: Homemade Hand Cream

Now more than ever, hygiene and self-care are very important; with this in mind, the SERC Beauty Lecturers have banded together to give you some tips and tutorials on giving yourself some quality quarantine care.

Now more than ever, hygiene and self-care are very important; with this in mind, the SERC Beauty Lecturers have banded together to give you some tips and tutorials on giving yourself some quality quarantine care. This week is focused on creating your own hand cream. 

This hand cream has a yield of twelve ounces and takes 12 minutes to make.  

Ingredients:   

  • Six ounces of unrefined shea butter (softened in microwave or double boiler)  
  • A quarter ounce of cocoa butter (softened in microwave or double boiler)  
  • Six ounces of almond oil 
  • 1 teaspoon of cornstarch 
  • A quarter fluid ounce of essential oil 

Directions:  

  • Place lots of ice in a large bowl and place a metal bowl on top of the ice. 
  • Place and mix the shea butter and cocoa butter in the metal bowl. 
  • Add almond oil and cornstarch and continue to mix. 
  • Whip with an electric hand mixer (not a stand mixer) and continue to beat. 
  • Add in the essential oils desired. 
  • Continue to beat until light, fluffy thick and cool. 
  • Place it in a glass jar, store it out of sunlight and use as needed.
