SERC recently hosted its annual plant sale at its campus in Holywood. The sale coincided with the campus’ open day which gave prospective students the opportunity to explore the facilities and find out about the range of courses on offer.

SERC’s Holywood Campus specialises in Horticulture and Art and Design which offer full and part time courses. SERC lecturers and staff including SERC Community and Careers were also on hand to offer advice to incoming students.

Colin Atkinson, SERC Deputy Head of School for Applied Science, Sport and Access to Education said, “As part of the Level Two Diploma in Horticulture course, students are required to plan and deliver a plant sale each year to coincide with the Holywood Campus open day.

“This sale is linked to module 'Presentation & Service Retailing in the Land-based Sector' and is delivered through project-based learning. This provides students with an excellent opportunity to improve their enterprise, communication and team-work skills. Money raised from the sale is then reinvested into the horticulture department as we continually strive to improve the facilities, equipment and horticultural experience for our students.

He concluded, “We were delighted with the turnout on the day. There was a great buzz around the campus which allowed the students and staff a chance to showcase this bespoke campus and our horticultural offering. We hope everyone had a great time and can’t wait to host this event again next year!”
