SERC has had two students, Joanne Barlow and Peter Smylie, involved in the WorldSkillsUK Finals which took place last week across the UK. In addition, Adam Smylie took part in the IFSEC National Competition and winners will be announced as part of the WorldSkillsUK Virtual Medal Ceremony.   

The Awards Ceremony for the National Finals will be broadcast in a live stream today, Friday 26 November, from 4.00pm - 6.00pm in what promises to be a glittering event hosted by Steph McGovern from Channel 4 Packed Lunch studio.   You can watch live here: National Finals 2021 ceremony | WorldSkills UK

Joanne Barlow 

Joanne Barlow (26), from Dromara is currently enrolled on the Level 3 Patisserie and Confectionery course at SERC after successfully completing Level 2 Professional Bakery.   Joanne competed for the Confectionery title, which was hosted in Glasgow, 17 – 19 November.      

Peter Smylie 

Peter Smylie (22), a Level 3 Fire & Security Apprentice from Moira, competed for the Electronic Security Systems title hosted in Warrington, 17 – 19 November.  Peter progressed from the Level 2 to the Level 3 Fire & Security Apprenticeship and is employed by Lisburn-based firm, Beacon Fire & Security.   

Adam Smylie  

Adam Smylie (24), from Moira (and brother of Peter), a Level 3 Fire & Security Apprentice, competed in the equally prestigious IFSEC National Competition for the Engineers of Tomorrow title which involved live installation of fire safety devices in Warrington, 17 – 19 November.   Adam also works for Lisburn based Beacon Fire & Security.
