This year's National Eye Health Week (NEHW) will take place from 21 to 27 September 2020, promoting the importance of good eye health and the need for regular eye tests for all.

Having an eye test will not just tell you if you need new glasses or a change of prescription – it's also an important eye health check.

An optician can spot many general health problems and early signs of eye conditions before you're aware of any symptoms, many of which can be treated if found early enough.

The NHS recommends you should have an eye test every 2 years (more often if advised by your ophthalmic practitioner or optometrist). For more NHS information click here.

Vision Matters have several tests you can do online, however these tests do not replace having a routine sight test:

If you require to wear glasses for VDU’s/safety glasses for your post if the optician advises VDU spectacles are required for VDU, use the College will contribute £55.00 towards the cost of spectacles. Where safety glasses are required by the postholder to fulfil their duties, the full cost will be recovered, and forms can be obtained by emailing HR@serc.ac.uk. As part of the UK Healthcare scheme which the College funds you are able to claim back on optical costs depending on your level of cover and this includes eye tests, glasses, contact lenses, repairs, and laser eye surgery.
