Student Governor Mollie Richardson

Following a college wide vote from SERC’s Students’ Union back in May, Mollie Richardson was elected as the new student governor. Here we get to know Mollie a little bit better and also find out more about her plans as student governor.

What course are you studying?

I am a level 3 Media Student in the Downpatrick Campus.

What 3 words best describe you?

Determined, awkward and talkative.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Read, write (stories, poetry, lyrics, screenplays etc.), listen to music, stay active (horse riding, hula hooping, yoga, walking, running), cook and learn.

If you could have anyone’s job for a day who would it be and why?

Holly Willoughby because I wish I had the confidence and ability to talk on TV, because that seems really fun to me. Plus, we share the same birthday!

List 3 items you would want with you if you were stranded on a deserted island?

A notepad, a pen and my glasses.

What is your favourite film and why?

Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper because it reminds me of everything I loved about my childhood.

What made you want to run for student governor?

I wanted to become student governor because I wanted to be more actively involved in SERC and the Students' Union along with the opportunity to prove and push myself that little bit more. I want to be someone who students feel comfortable approaching and raising any opinions they have, concerning their life at SERC.

What impact do you wish to have?

The impact I wish to have as SERC student governor 2020-2021 is a lasting one. I wish to get as many students as possible involved in the Students' Union, as well as working to get more clubs/societies etc. up and running. Anything I can, to make each and every student feel more involved and included in SERC.

What are you looking forward to most from your term?

What I'm looking forward to most, in my term as SERC student governor, is working alongside students and SU staff, to make a real impact. I'm looking forward to making a difference in ways that not only matter to me, but to every student at SERC. Most importantly, I'm looking forward to being someone that other students can look up to and be inspired by. Even if that sounds really dramatic.

I'd love to say to anyone reading that you should get involved with YOUR SERC Students' Union. It's a great body to be a part of and make valuable life experiences. You get to use your voice as a student to make a change, not only in the College, but in yourself too! Thank you to everyone who voted me as your student governor for 2020-2021 - I aspire to make everyone proud!
