SERC Sport and Outdoor Activities have launched their Outdoor Adventure Workshops at the College’s Bangor Campus, and are welcoming local scout groups to benefit from expert tutors and SERC facilities.

First to enjoy a session of indoor and outdoor activities were Kraken and Manticore Explorers from North Down. SERC students from the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoor Activities course, along with their lecturers, hosted sessions on water safety and camp craft. The visitors saw that not all classrooms have four walls, as they practised setting up shelters, lighting fires, and making s’mores and hot chocolates in the SERC Bangor Campus grounds.

Paddy McShane, Head of School of Applied Science and Sport, says the evening was a great success:

“We were delighted to welcome the Kraken and Manticore Scout Explorer Groups to our Bangor Campus to experience our Outdoor Adventure Workshop. It was a great opportunity to share knowledge and to showcase our Outdoor Activities Sport Programme here at SERC’s Bangor Campus. I would like to thank the groups, their leaders and their parents for participating in a fun and engaging evening.”

The next workshops are planned for March, when the students and staff will be welcoming a group of Belfast Sea Cadets. Anyone who is interested in joining a future session should contact serc.sport@serc.ac.uk

SERC is the only FE provider in Northern Ireland to offer the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoor Activities. You can find out more information here
