Game of Thrones Tapestry Showcase at Ulster Museum

All Weekend - 10am to 5pm - Ulster Museum Belfast - Free

Head down to the Ulster Museum to see the famous 87 metre long woven and embroidered Game of Thrones tapestry, which was commissioned in 2017 by Tourism Ireland, in partnership with Tourism Northern Ireland and HBO, to celebrate Game of Thrones becoming a part of Northern Ireland’s culture and heritage.

The tapestry is entirely hand woven of linen, with cotton and metallic threads used to highlight hand embroidered details. A team of stitchers, drawn from National Museums NI staff and volunteers from local textile guilds worked together in 2017, and again in 2019, to collectively add over 1,000 hours of hand embroidered highlights to the tapestry.

Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail

All Weekend – 12am – Various Belfast Locations - Free

Elmers big Belfast Trail is a free, family-friendly art trail which will be running between 20 June – 31 August. The City will be brought to life by a herd of uniquely decorated elephant sculptures, who will be positioned around key landmarks, streets, and open spaces in Belfast for 10 weeks. Each elephant is sponsored by a local business or organisation, making the trail deeply rooted within the local community.

Visitors and residents can explore the city centre, parks and open spaces while following the Trail to discover all of the bold and eye-catching large Elmers. Once the initiative ends on 31 August, each of the Elmers will be auctioned to raise funds for Northern Ireland Hospice. These funds will enable them to continue to provide outstanding care and support to local families when they need it most.
