Little SERC Receives Funding for Outdoor Fun

SERC’s Little SERC Creche, based at the College’s Newcastle Campus, has secured funding from the Childcare Partnership to develop the outdoor play area. Little SERC provides care for the children of parents attending the College, many of whom are adult returners to education.

Since the creche opened in December 2020, surveys have shown that all parents responding felt that their child had improved in all areas of development through attending the Little SERC Creche. The expansion of the outdoor space will create additional learning opportunities for all the children and is something that the Creche team have been keen to develop as part of their stimulating learning environment.   

Heather McKee, Director of Strategic Planning, Quality and Support at SERC, said,  “The new funding will provide an outdoor sensory space with dedicated quiet area and will include mirror making trees, giant blocks and an outdoor easel – together they will stimulate and support the children’s curiosity, creative and spatial development, all whilst enjoying the fresh air.”

The Little SERC Creche team were awarded a Pearson National Teaching Sliver Award for Early Years Team of the Year in June 2023.
