Level 3 Beauty Therapy students from SERC’s Lisburn Campus recently organised and hosted an event to raise money for Dementia NI, at the College’s Revive Hair and Beauty Salon in Lisburn.

In return for a donation to Dementia NI, members of the public were able to indulge in some pampering, with a variety of beauty treatments on offer including back massages, nail file and polishes and facials. The students also organised a raffle and bun sale during the event, raising a total of £235.84 for the charity.

Lisa McCormick Baxter, Level 3 Beauty Therapy tutor, commented: “The students organised the event from start to finish which helped them pass a unit of their level 3 programme, as well as hit a lot of criteria for their Transversal Skills qualification and raise money for their chosen charity, Dementia NI, so it was a win win!”

After the event, SERC was contacted by another Dementia charity who came to the salon and delivered a dementia workshop, training students on how best to talk to clients who have early onset dementia.

Following their successful fundraising efforts and completion of the dementia workshop, the students’ skills and training will be put to further good use. They plan to visit St. Paul’s Court, a supported housing scheme in Lisburn, to provide hand and arm massages to residents living with mild to moderate dementia.
