Learning Resource Centre Launch Book Club

SERC’s Learning Resource Centres (LRC) are delighted to launch the LRC Book Club.

The concept is simple:  bring a book, take a book. The service is open to all SERC students and staff. If you enjoy a good read, or even if you haven’t picked up a work of fiction in ages, now is the time to dip in. There are now designated Book Club shelves, clearly marked, in the LRCs in Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards Campuses  - the LRC team can direct you to them.  To avail of the service, simply bring along a fiction book, leave it on the Book Club shelf and take one away to read at your leisure.  

David Greer, LRC Manager said, “The Book Club is an extension of our Book of the Month initiative which we ran during Covid. Each month the LRC bought a popular novel in e-book format and encouraged staff and students to read it. As we returned to normality after the pandemic, we wanted to continue encouraging everyone to read for pleasure and to expand the offering to physical books.”

He added, “We have an extensive fiction offering at all of our LRCs.   This has been made possible by the generosity of students and staff at each campus who have donated the books to get the Book Club up and running. I would also like to extend my thanks to Praxis Care (Conlig Day Services), who donated more than 200 books which were unsold after a recent jumble sale.”

David concluded, “I would encourage all staff and students to have a look at home for any books you would like to pass on - works of fiction only, no text books – place it on the shelves and take one away to read at your leisure.   Even if you don’t have something to donate, just take a book, read it and leave it back when you're done – no pressure.   The important thing is that books are for everyone and even if you think you don’t like reading, the chances are you probably haven’t found the kind of book, or great story, that interests you.   Prepare to be amazed where a good book can take you!”

The LRC Book Club is still taking donations so if you have a few books to donate, bring them in and leave them with any of the LRC team.
