SERC’s Learning Academy have issued lecturing staff with Wacom tablets for use online and on campus to further upskill and equip them with technology to enhance teacher-learner experience.
Heather Gyle, Learning and Development Manager said, “To date the Learning Academy have 42 Wacom tablets on loan to SERC staff for use online and on campus and have delivered training to lecturers in science, maths and essential skills teams."
She added, “The Wacom can be used for presentations, annotations, written feedback and to engage learners. It is particularly useful in the online learning environment to demonstrate how to solve mathematical problems, colour and to shade 3D diagrams.”
Paul Oliver, Lecturer in Essential Skills said, "I am a visual learner, and this tool helps me to teach in my style." He goes on to say, for feedback on assessment, "The Wacom enables me to mark the work online as I would on paper copies."
Matthew Kilic, Maths and Science Lecturer said, “I am currently using the Wacom to go over past papers with students. It is a great tool, as it accommodates those who may not be able to make it into class, and is much more convenient than having to print off and waste paper.”
Michelle Mulligan, Science Lecturer added, “The Wacom has been great for taking remote science classes, particularly to annotate diagrams and for calculations and chemical diagrams. My students found it useful for me to model answers in revision - they could see the process increase and details be added one at a time.”
