Karen Strain, from Newtownards, feels like she has improved in her job role since studying with SERC.

Karen works as a Fleet Coordinator for Translink, Northern Ireland Railways. As part of a SERC/Translink partnership, she was offered the opportunity to study for the C&G Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of the Assessment Processes & Practice course. She was keen to enrol, having identified how it could help improve her procedures in the workplace.

Karen comments, “I found that studying through SERC was a very positive experience as I received a lot of guidance and support from my tutor to enable me to complete the course. This support was vital for me to ensure that I understood the terminology and tasks on the course so that I could relate them back to my own workplace and job role. I found the course itself very interesting and enjoyed working through the different processes and stages within it.

“I enjoy my job due to the variety of activities involved in it. Every shift is different and as the situation can change so quickly it makes for an interesting, challenging and fast-moving working environment. My time with SERC has helped to support me within my current job role as an A1 Assessor. As the railway is such a safety critical environment, we must have a robust internal quality assurance system in place so that the railway safety standards and procedures are being adhered to and staff are competent to carry out their job roles safely. Completing this qualification through SERC has provided me with the knowledge and guidance to assess and identify what changes I can make to improve the internal quality assurance process within my own workplace.”

Karen concluded, “I would definitely recommend this course to anyone and to check out the wide variety of courses SERC has to offer. I am looking forward to studying with SERC again in the future.”
