South Eastern Regional College held its 3rd intercampus engineering skills competition which took place at the Lisburn Campus and the New Skills Centre in Nutts Corner.

South Eastern Regional College held its 3rd intercampus engineering skills competition which took place at the Lisburn Campus and the New Skills Centre in Nutts Corner. The two-day competition was designed to test and challenge the ability of its students in turning, milling, fabrication and welding.

Within the competition, the students were challenged to manufacture components using industry-based skills. There was a total of 52 level 2 and level 3 apprentices that took part this year.

Turning  

  • Tiernan Hillen, Downpatrick Campus (First Place)
  • Adam McMullen, Lisburn Campus (Second Place)
  • Kelly Thales, Bangor Campus (Third Place)

Fabrication 

  • Ivan Tate, Downpatrick Campus, (First Place)
  • Morgan Steele, Downpatrick Campus (Second Place)
  • Tyler Lee Wilson, Downpatrick Campus (Third Place)

Wielding 

  • David Morgan, Lisburn Campus (First Place)
  • Ronan McCloskey, Nutts Corner Skills Centre (Second Place)
  • Stuart Orr, Nutts Corner Skills Centre (Third Place)

Ivan Kelly, SERC Lecturer in Engineering, comments “It was duly noted that the skill level has been sustained this year and the vast majority of the young people are now paid apprentices from companies right across the province. Special thanks need to be made to all students, tutors and corporate staff. Without their help and support the event could not have happened.”
