IT Savvy Students Deliver for Connecting You Device Scheme

 IT students from SERC have been helping prepare 107 tablets, as part of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s (LCCC) Connecting You device scheme. The devices will be distributed to people in the local community who have little internet access.

Connecting You has been funded by LCCC  to help provide devices with internet connection for people in the local community that need support to connect with people online and help with continuing their education.

Iain Watters, SERC Lecturer in Computing said, “First- and second-year students from our Level 3 in IT have been involved in updating operating systems, installing and configuring Apps on the 107 devices which LCCC will distribute to people in the Lisburn and Castlereagh areas, where there is a need for devices with internet connection for study and work.   Training was also provided in using the apps and basic cloud computing.”

“Our Further Education students and members of our student companies have been involved in the configuration and preparation of the devices, so they are immediately ready for use to meet the anticipated needs of recipients.”
