Level 2 Health and Social Care students helped spread some Christmas cheer to six residents of Oakmont Lodge recently, at SERC’s Newtownards Campus.
The Christmas party organised by SERC students and staff featured Christmas decoration crafts, musical instruments, a Christmas sing along, tea, coffee and refreshments, as well as a visit from Santa himself, who gave the Oakmont Lodge residents gifts. Throughout the event, the Health and Social care students had the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the residents, as well as engage in Project-Based Learning through planning the event and ensuring the event ran smoothly.
SERC Level 2 Health and Social Care tutor Jenni Rice comments, “The Christmas party was a success! I am so proud of our Level 2 Health and Social Care students. They were enthusiastic in the planning of decorations, activities, entertainment and refreshments for the residents of Oakmont Lodge. Three of our students are on placement in Oakmont and the residents were pleased to see their friendly faces. The students and residents have asked that we do this every year as they all enjoyed the experience!”
