World Mental Health Day, which takes place on 10 October this week, is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy. Its aim is to break through the social stigma associated with discussing your mental health with others.

This year’s theme for World Mental Health Day is ‘Workplace Mental Health’, and SERC is running two events on 10 October to support this theme.

Staff are invited to come along for coffee and refreshments on 10 October on SERC Bangor and Newtownards campuses to avail of the free health and wellbeing services provided at the event.

Activities will include:

  • Atrial Fibrillation testing with Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke to check for heart conditions that affect your heart rate.
  • Skin scanning with Cancer Focus NI, which allows you to see into the deeper layers of your skin to look for evidence of sun damage (it is recommended not to wear make-up for this scan). They will also be providing information on how to quit smoking and vaping.
  • Blood pressure checks will be undertaken by Linda Martin in the respective locations (found below).
  • Bangor Aurora and Ards Blair Mayne Leisure Centre will be present to promote their facilities and corporate membership rates that are available for SERC staff.
  • You can take the opportunity to meet your campus Mental Health First Aider and get information on wellbeing services available at SERC.

Times and locations:

  • Bangor Campus – 10 October, 11.15am to 12.30pm, Staff Lounge (B1)
  • Newtownards Campus – 10 October, 9.30am to 10.30pm, Staff Room (A26)

No booking is required.
