SERC's team of horticulture experts bring you weekly gardening tips and advice. This week horticulture lecturer Joanna Loane has provided us with some helpful advice on slugs and snails.
Many gardeners know the disappointment of going into the garden to admire some of our best plants only to find leaves half eaten or flower stems ‘sawn off’, particularly vulnerable are delicious little seedlings that we have lovingly taken care of and hardened off before planting them outside! Although we should all encourage biodiversity and support habitats, garden visitors such as slugs and snails can outstay their welcome, and an effective way of controlling the damage they can do is to deter or ‘rehome’ them. Physical deterrents such as crushed eggshells or copper tape on pots can be effective. This video demonstrates how to re-home these unwanted guests!
