Northern Ireland War Memorial Saturday Opening

Visit the Northern Ireland War Memorial to learn about Air Raid Precautions, Rationing, the Belfast Blitz and the build-up of US Forces in Northern Ireland. Listen to 1940’s music and play with wartime games and toys. Dress up in real wartime uniforms and helmets and take part in craft activities suitable for all ages. Admission is free. Whitehead Railway Museum is delighted to announce the welcome return of Steam Saturdays for the month of September. Come down to the picturesque seaside town of Whitehead to experience a short steam train ride. Hauled by a 101 year-old Guinness engine and sitting in a carriage which a certain famous wizard would feel at home in, you will be transported to a bygone era. This is an experience like none other provided on the island of Ireland. While you are on site, why not have a tour of the Whitehead Railway Museum and a bite to eat in the café. Enjoy the sights of Strangford Lough from the water. Get on board a canoe and relax in the serenity of your surroundings before heading back to a magnificent traditional Irish thatched cottage for tea and cake.Sitting in the warmth of the cottage kitchen you will be treated to a demonstration of soda bread making. The table will be laden with soda and wheaten bread with Tracey’s homemade jams and handmade award- winning butter at Tracey’s Farmhouse Kitchen! Bring an appetite! £60 per person.
