Volunteers’ Week, 1 – 7 June, offers the chance to say thank you to students and staff at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) who have got behind local and international causes with fundraising efforts over the years.
Catherine Shipman, Student Engagement Manager at SERC said, “With so many students and staff at SERC it’s not surprising the number of causes that are important to us. Staff and students, through teams, classes, campuses’ and the Students’ Union have raised a whopping £9,640 over the past 2 years through a range of events and activities. We’ve hosted team building days for Motor Neurone Disease Association, Big Coffee Mornings for Macmillian Cancer, raffles and bun sales for Children in Need, stitched blankets for koalas, put on our trainers for Downpatrick Autism Family Support Group, posed for spookie selfies for Bandanas for the Brave, made festive decorations for Air Ambulance, had a pie to the face for Movember, carved pumpkins for PIPS, hosted art exhibitions for Insight, pamper sessions for Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI, packed away pizza for Cash for Kids, tossed pancakes and slept out in aid of SOS Bus NI and baked buns for St John Ambulance, held a quiz night for Bangor Community Hub and took over charity shops for Action Cancer - there was no let up in the ideas for fundraising!
She added, “Many of the events are organised by students and it is great to see them flourish with ideas for getting people to part with their money for good causes and the delight and pride they feel when they hand over much needed funds.”
In addition, SERC has been involved with the Northern Ireland based charity Fields of Life for the past five years’ and has raised over £17,000 Upskilling Uganda, where we have committed to supporting the construction and operation of a purpose-built vocational training institute.
A huge Thank You to everyone who has been involved in fundraising through the College.
