Beauty students at South Eastern Regional College (SERC) are offering wellbeing treatments to student and staff with caring responsibilities in a win-win initiative that is set to benefit local foodbanks and charities.
In collaboration with the College’s HR team Mind Yourself programme, the students gain valuable project-based learning (PBL) including experience of delivering treatments, promotion, and scheduling appointments. Maureen McKay, HR Business Partner said, “We are pleased to be working in collaboration with the beauty departments in Bangor, Downpatrick and Lisburn Campuses for the Feel-Good PBL beauty event, which will offer treatments such as mini facials with neck and shoulder massages and hand and arm massages to student and staff carers. Following treatments, participants availed of refreshments in the Relaxation Room.”
The first session took place on Thursday 1 February in Downpatrick Campus hosted by Level 2 Beauty Therapy students. This was followed by the session hosted by NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy General students at Bangor Campus on 20 February. Treatments included facials, mini manicures, and gel polish and the team collected and hosted a raffle for Street Paws - a charity vets for the homeless pets in Belfast.
The final session will be hosted by Lisburn Campus students:
Lisburn Campus 1.00pm – 4.00pm on 26 February
Treatments offered will include mini facials, file and polish, hand and arm massages in Lisburn’s Beauty salon. Donations are welcome on the day to support the students’ chosen charity.
