The College launched its second Feel Good Fitness programme with “Live” and “Pre-recorded” sessions in February. If you didn’t get the opportunity to sign up for the sessions, it’s still not too late.

We all know the importance of fitness and taking time out of our busy schedules for our own health and wellbeing, but do we do anything about it?

The College launched its second Feel Good Fitness programme with “Live” and “Pre-recorded” sessions in February. The live sessions consist of Tai Chi, Armchair Yoga and Cardio and Core and the recorded sessions are Yoga, Circuit Blast and Stretch and Tone sessions as outlined in the schedule and last between 30 to 40 minutes.

Staff have welcomed the Feel-Good Fitness programmes:

"The fitness/exercise classes organised by SERC during lockdown were excellent. The short 30-minute live sessions allowed me the opportunity to switch off from work, get active and improve my well-being, a mixture of cardio and relaxation. Having them recorded was an extra bonus as I could do them as often as I wished." - C Magennis

Cardio and Core with Bradley Cromie

"A great workout that I can really feel doing me good and improving my fitness. Bradley is happy to answer questions and show “easier” versions of exercises if needed!" - J Liddell

Armchair Yoga with Linda Martin

“I have found the Armchair Yoga, delivered by Linda Martin and organised by the SERC Management Team for both staff and students as part of their COVID-19 response, very beneficial to both my physical and mental health, especially during these challenging COVID-19 restrictions when we are spending most of our time in our houses with only our immediate family for company.

"Linda is very enthusiastic and encouraging and it is obvious that she knows her stuff. The classes are relaxed, and thoroughly enjoyable and I am finding them both challenging and rewarding in equal measure. I look forward to them every week and is a great way to start the morning.

"I have never taken part in Yoga before and as I have a weakness in my back and Yoga is something, I always thought was not for me, but Linda has completely changed my mind about this, and I am now a big fan and advocate of armchair yoga. Linda makes it accessible and fit for all no matter what your level or fitness level, mobility, age etc and always emphasises how important it is that we take it at our own pace."

"I would highly recommend these classes.” - (J Chaib)

“Linda provides some great techniques for destressing wish we had it all year” - E.H

"I have really enjoyed taking part in the armchair yoga sessions. It is done at a pace to suit everyone and the advice and instructions are easy to follow. The session early on a Tuesday morning really sets you up for the rest of the day!" - T Davies

Tai Chi with Declan McClure

"I have been attending the Tai Chi sessions with Declan McClure for the past 3 weeks and I am loving the experience. It is 30 minutes of "Me" time, which I would not generally allow to happen during a working day. Declan is a great instructor, and I can feel the benefits of the classes already......I'm trying to practice throughout the week too. I would love Tai Chi to continue, maybe outdoors post lockdown, as it is having a positive impact on my well-being." - Anonymous

"The Tai Chi sessions with Declan are a great opportunity to get away from my desk and relax. Declan is a calming presence and each session leaves me feeling calm and energised. I would highly recommend giving it a go." - J Cash

If you didn’t get the opportunity to sign up for the sessions, it’s still not too late. There are 3 weeks still to go, if you email mindyourself@serc.ac.uk to join the MS Teams site to access the sessions. Links will be posted on the MS team site on the relevant days.
