SERC is set to deliver a new suite of training to upskill participants for work in the health and social care and childcare sector commencing from 20 February 2023.

The three new academy-style training programmes, delivered in partnership with Ards and North Down Labour Market Partnership and fully funded by Department for Communities, offer - free of charge - upskilling for current or aspiring managers of private, voluntary and independent health and social care settings and two entry level programmes designed to introduce, or refresh, participants in the core skills required for work in health and social or childcare settings.

The courses run for one day a week over 6 weeks:

Health and Social Care Entry Level Academy commencing 24 February 9.30am – 4.00pm;
Health and Social Care Upskilling Academy commencing 20 February 6.00pm - 9.30pm; and
Childcare - Entry Level and Upskilling Combined Academy commencing 20 February 9:30am - 4.00pm.

Emma Finney, Senior Skills and Innovation Manager at SERC said, “These programmes are designed both to reskill and upskill in sectors which have readily available employment both at entry level and management in our local communities. They are a good step for someone who wants to get into the Health and Social Care or Childcare Sector.

She added, “The course timings are flexible, and a hybrid course delivery allows for work schedules or caring responsibilities.   On successful completion participants will gain a CMI Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management or a Certificate of Attendance for Introduction to Core Skills and Knowledge in and Early Years Setting or Health and Social Care, depending on programme.   All candidates will also gain a RSPH Level 2 Award in Food Safety and Hygiene.”
