Dry January is a public health campaign, that encourages people to abstain from alcohol consumption and develop a healthier relationship with it. Going alcohol free can make a huge difference to your health with benefits such as lower blood pressure, reduced risk of diabetes, lower cholesterol and helps reduce the levels of cancer-related proteins in your blood.

Here are some tips for cutting back on alcohol:

  • Use this calculator to help you work out how many units of alcohol you are drinking per week.
  • Have a few alcohol-free days each week.
  • Choose a smaller glass to drink from and set a limit on how many glasses you can have.
  • Plan what you will say if you are offered a drink, it's fine to say “no”.
  • Try drinking low-alcohol and non-alcohol alternatives.
  • Have something to eat before and during drinking and pace yourself.
  • Ask for help if you feel your drinking is out of control.

The hub also has an excellent mood tracker and goal tracker to see how you are feeling each day while you aren’t drinking. It also features a self-help guide to help you think about what you need to do to reduce your consumption levels.
