South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is delighted to have been awarded another contract to deliver the Driving to Success project 2020-2021 commencing this September.
The project, delivered by SERC in conjunction with the Downpatrick Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, and funded by the Department for Communities, supports participants who must be residents of the Downpatrick Neighbourhood Renewal area.
Tatiana Seed, Project Coordinator said, “This local project aims to engage with unemployed people to equip them with practical and employability skills and support them to achieve vocational qualifications. Participants get tailored career guidance on continuing education at SERC or finding a job and are provided with free driving lessons and an opportunity to take their driving theory and practical test to obtain a full car driving licence. This can often be a huge confidence boost to participants.
She added, “This successful programme greatly improves employment and education opportunities and supports people to make a difference for themselves, as well as helping to make communities stronger.”
SERC has been successfully delivering The Driving to Success project for 8 years. Since 2012 over 240 project participants availed of the opportunities provided by the programme, and many have sustained employment or continued education at SERC. Many past students agreed that participation on the programme has helped build their confidence, boosted their self-esteem and motivation along with the relevant and practical skills that they gained through the programme.
If you are a resident of the Downpatrick Neighbourhood Renewal area and interested in participating on the project in 2020-21, or would like to find out more in confidence, please email Tatiana Seed at SERC on tseed@serc.ac.uk
