Developing Photography Skills Works for Aaron

Turning his hobbies into a career seems to be working for Aaron Rice.   The young man, who is completing a Level 3 in Creative Media Production and Technology at SERC’s Downpatrick Campus, is well on the way to carving out a career in photography.

Aaron (19), from Castlewellan, progressed to SERC following his A-Levels at St Malachy’s High School, in Castlewellan.   He said, “I was keen to come to SERC to do the Level 3 in Creative Media Production and Technology as I am very interested in photography, and I felt this course would suit me.”

He added, “I came along to a couple of the open days to find out a bit more and just to get a feel for the College. I was able to speak to the tutor and ask questions about the course and to see all the facilities which helped me decide that it was the right pathway for me.”

“The course is very interesting and, for me, one of the best things is being able to develop my photography skills.   I was also able to combine my love of photography with my love of horses for my end of year final project, by producing a 2024 calendar for Mount Pleasant Equestrian Centre.   I took all the photos of the horses at the riding centre and designed the calendar.  I printed up a limited number for them and we are considering getting some more printed which can be sold at the riding school.  This was definitely my favourite part of the year, as I got to plan and work on the project from start to finish.   I was really pleased with the results and so were the team at Mount Pleasant.”

The talented young man is hoping to further develop his skills.   He said, “I have another year to do for the Level 3 qualification and after that I am hoping to develop my skills at a higher level.”

Speaking about coming to SERC Aaron said, “My course is really good, and the tutors are great.   There is plenty of support if you need it – you just have to ask. I feel that I am reaching my full potential by studying what I love best.”
