Zak Patterson (17) from Ballynahinch, is currently studying the Level 3 Creative Media Production & Technology at SERC’s Downpatrick Campus.
Before SERC, Zax was a student at Saintfield High School where he completed his GCSEs. The young man was initially interested in joinery but decided on the Level 3 Creative Media Production & Technology route, when he found out a bit more about the course after coming along to an open day and speaking to one of the tutors.
Zak said, “My favourite part of the course has been the audio side as this is where my ambitions lie for further study and employment.” The young man is hoping to pursue a career as a sound engineer."
He said, “We have fantastic facilities on campus and for my end of year project I produced a music video, which entailed planning the shot list, filming, recording the track – all original instrumental - matching up my voice rapping, and finally editing. This all required using specialist software and equipment that we have access to as part of the course.”
He added, “I have another year to do before progressing to a specialist higher level qualification that will take me into sound engineering. The course is very useful, and I have learnt a lot since I started. There is also a lot of support available in the College, for example, I was able to access a laptop with specialist software to use at home to work on my project over the Easter holiday which was great.”
