You may be aware that the College is licensed by the CLA, to re-use copyright material such as books, journals, magazines, newspapers and digital resources. This allows us to photocopy, scan, email, share or upload resources to Moodle, Teams etc. As part of CLA’s work, they collect data to enable them to pay appropriate royalties to authors, publishers, and visual artists whose work has been re-used, as opposed to being bought.

The assistance of all staff is required to comply with the terms and conditions of our licence. Please note this is not an audit or inspection; it is collection of data to allow CLA to recompense the rightsholders. Data will be captured electronically using the My Content site. Instructions on how to use this tool are detailed below, and posters are displayed at copiers across the College.

What you need to do

  • Each time you re-use published material, you need to log in via the unique link (found below) to record the book or other resource that you used, and how many students it was shared with.
  • Include copies made from an original publication, scanning a favourite copy, or pasting an image from a website. All are relevant types of use and should be recorded.
  • Please make sure you click the submit button at the bottom of the screen to ensure your data is sent.
  • Save the link in your Favourites or Bookmarks so it is easily accessible when you have data to record.
  • Alternatively, you can drop an email to the Reprographics team who would be happy to record your data for you. Please contact reprobangor@serc.ac.uk or reproards@serc.ac.uk.

If you have any queries about this exercise please contact Adele Uprichard, auprichard@serc.ac.uk or Tim Hawes, CLA Royalties Officer, tim.hawes@cla.co.uk

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Your support is much appreciated in ensuring that authors, publishers, and visual artists whose works are being re-used are fairly rewarded.
