South Eastern Regional College (SERC) will be hosting Clearing Days for Further Education, Training for Success and Apprenticeship courses on Thursday 20 August, 1.00pm-4.30pm and Friday 21 August, 9.30am -2.00pm at Bangor, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newtownards Campuses.

Heather McKee, Director of Strategic Planning, Quality and Support said, “Our Clearing Days are for those students who have not made an application to come to SERC in September, giving them the opportunity to visit our campuses and speak with tutors or our independent careers advisors about their options.

“Prior to attending, we encourage potential students to visit our website, so they are familiar with the range of subjects on offer and perhaps view our pre-recorded webinars for a further insight.

She added, “If students know which subject area they wish to study, then on attendance at a Clearing Day, they will meet with appropriate lecturing staff who will hold a pre-entry advice and guidance session, consisting of a few questions and a skills test - ranging from an audition to a computer test - depending on the course of choice. Successful students who meet other entry requirements of the course will be encouraged to make an application and enrolled on the course.”

Attending a SERC Clearing Day does not guarantee enrolment on a course. Spaces are not guaranteed to be available for every subject area and entry requirements must be met to be eligible for enrolment. Students are encouraged to apply early for courses to avoid disappointment.

Heather concluded, “For those students who are unsure of their next step, SERC’s Careers Advisors provide a professional, impartial, and confidential service, helping young people and adults make informed choices about their future career and next steps. You will find full contact details on our website or you can email careers@serc.ac.uk advising of your nearest campus.
