Students from SERC put on a festive-ready pamper day for RNIB clients and volunteers at the College’s Bangor Campus this week. The students from the Level 3 Hairdressing and Level 3 Beauty courses teamed up to offer wash, cuts and blow dries as well as facials, hand and back massages to RNIB clients and volunteers who travelled from as far afield as Fermanagh for the pamper day.

Beauty lecturer Lynn Fitzpatrick Hamill said, “We were delighted to host the pamper day, which was organised in partnership with RNIB’s Community Access Worker, Olive Brown.   We have a long-standing relationship with the RNIB, and the pamper day has become part of our festive calendar of activities."

She added, “It’s a lovely day and the students are all delighted to pay forward their skills for the benefit of others in the community.   It is also great for them to experience working with clients with a range of needs and our visitors love coming to the College to meet the students and just enjoy the day.”

Eleven clients and volunteers took part in the session but the one who created the biggest fuss amongst the hairdressing team was Micky the guide dog with owner Dawn Hopper.   Micky, of course arrived perfectly groomed and, as you would expect, was totally unfazed by all the noise and comings and goings in the salon, opting instead for a little lie-down close to his owner.
